Introduction to Probability and Statistics Homework 3
Problem 0 Read chapters 7 and 9 of the text, A Modern Introduction to Probability and Statistics: Understanding Why and How. Problem 1 Do exercise 7:14 in the text Problem 2 Do exercise 9:3 in the text. Problem 3 On any given day, you study at one of three locations: CST, Bird Library, or Carnegie Library. If you study at Bird, then you will study at CST or Carnegie the next day with equal probability (and not at Bird). If you study at CST, then you will study the next day at any one of the three locations with equal probability. If you study at Carnegie, then the next day you will study at Carnegie with probability 1 2, at Bird with probability 14, and at CST with probability 1 4. Suppose you study at Bird on Monday. What is the probability of studying at Bird on Friday? Hint: Don’t be afraid to use R for this problem. Compute all three probabilities for each day based on the previous day’s probabilities.
